This 105,000 square foot building was constructed by the Navy during World War II to support the construction of warships. Though protected for historical reasons, the building was long-empty and in bad shape. Kindred Motorworks, a new company that restores and modernizes classic cars at scale, decided to make this building their home. It was built out to include everything necessary to restore these cars, from receiving and disassembly at the rear, to upholstery and finish toward the front. Down the middle of the building, we constructed a “highway” that will ultimately have a row of street trees running down the middle. At the front is the showroom, offices, breakroom with kitchen, etc. Kindred Motorworks will give life to classic cars, this old building, and to an impoverished community.
